We have two weather systems ready to move through this week - then a longer dry spell thanks to a lingering high.

A deep low is crossing the Bight, letting a trough then front cross Victoria today. It's not as strong as it could be, as the low will slide down south of Tasmania, thanks to a strong ridge of high pressure. We still see 5 to 10 cm of snow by later tomorrow.

This system paves the way ready for a much stronger one mid-week. This low is not that deep, but should pass much closer to the alps, and the whole system is cold. Expect 15 to 25 cm on Wednesday/Thursday - heaviest on Wednesday.

There is not much happening for a little stretch after that, as the high takes over and should make it dry. But, there is the potential for the high to actually move to our east - something that hasn't happened for a while - which will warm it up by early next week.

This may not be good news for the next weather system.

REST OF TODAY:

Snow, most persistent this morning and again tonight (around 5cm, to 1400m). Breezy to strong NW winds.
