We have a high pressure system overhead, but also a very cold airmass. It stays cold and sunny today, but the high will move eastwards introducing strengthening northerly winds. This will let it warm up, while cloud will build from the weather system currently over WA.

This system is taking in a lot of tropical moisture, but its also peaking back to our west – so it won’t be as good as it could be. The front slides across us on Wednesday, with snow above 1700 metres for most of it, lowering to 1500 metres for the last bit of precipitation. But, this should bring 20 to 30 cm of snow above 1700 metres.

This works to weaken the high, so a front can move through on Friday/Saturday, bringing 10 to 20 cm of snow.

Another front arrives on Sunday – and this one is driven by a deep low. If the low moves across Bass Strait, it will be epic, but it should bring at least 30cm of snow from Sunday to Tuesday next week.
