There is enough instability and moisture, plus just enough cold air (for now) to keep snowing all the way through to the start of the weekend. And it will fall heavy, and to low levels, early Friday.

A trough is moving away this morning then a weakening front clip the alps later today, so the the persistent snow will break to start and stop snow showers.

A strong cold front with a cut-off low for extra oomph, has a feed of tropical moisture and plenty of cold air. This will bring our first proper cold outbreak of the season on Friday. There will be heavy snow, falling down to 600 metres over southern Victoria for a time.

It rapidly dries up late Friday, then Saturday has just the chance of snow showers, but its cold with sunny breaks and lighter winds.

We stay dry on Sunday, but cloud builds as another tropical jet crosses the country, searching for a connection to a low to the south. Some models have a good connection, and lots of snow early next week, others don't connect so well, and its light falls. But, one thing is sure, there's plenty of cold air.

We then take a break under a high before more activity late next week.
