A low pressure system is cut-off from the westerly airflow to our south, and will pass south of Tasmania on Tuesday and Wednesday. This puts the alps in a west to northwest airflow, allowing plenty of precipitation.

The atmosphere is borderline cold enough for snow through to the end of Tuesday (around 1800 metres), it cools a bit Tuesday evening (to 1600 metres), then its snow down to 1300 metres through Wednesday. Expect 20 to 30 cm on the highest peaks, and 5 to 15 cm lower down.

After Wednesday there is no problem with warm air for the rest of the outlook - its snow down to at least 1200 metres.

A trough slides through early Friday, with snow from late Thursday to Friday afternoon, 3 to 8 cm.

A front arrives on Saturday, with 10 to 15 cm of snow from Saturday morning to Sunday morning.

Another front arrives on Monday, with 5 to 15 cm of snow from Monday into Tuesday.

Tuesday - Persistent snow above 1800 metres, lowering to 1600 metres in the evening.

Wednesday - Persistent snow down to 1300 metres. Easing in the evening.

Thursday - Generally dry, the chance of snow showers later.

Friday - Persistent snow in the morning. The chance of snow showers in the afternoon and evening.

Saturday - Persistent snow, heaviest in the afternoon and evening.
