A complex area of low pressure lies southwest of Victoria, with a significant feed of cold, polar air.
This has three surges. The first went through this morning, but another, colder surge arrives this afternoon and the final one passes through on Thursday morning. These will act to increase the snow intensity, but otherwise we have persistent, dry snow falling.
Expect 30 to 40 cm of snow on Wednesday/Thursday, falling down to 1000 metres at times.
The centre of the trailing high does stay back west of Perth, but the ridge out ahead will push the next system further east. Another cold front will move across the southeast of the country on Saturday, with the coldest air passing over southeast Victoria. Snow may fall as low as 800 metres there, but the systems trajectory should mean alpine areas see around 10 cm. It clears early Sunday as the next high moves in.
The next high moves out to our east early next week, but an upper level trough should move through. This looks cold enough to deliver some light snow, but most of the precipitation will be further north.
