A strong high pressure system is still with us, but it is centred up over Australia, allowing cold fronts to pass to our south.
It is not cold enough, so we have light rain until tomorrow afternoon, which may bring up to 5mm. The sun comes out on Wednesday as the high moves eastwards - and then a proper weather system can finally come through.
A strong cold front will push through on Thursday night, followed by another on Friday night. This should bring snow from Thursday morning into the weekend, with 20 to 30 cm likely. The heaviest parts are with the fronts, and the first one is only snow above about 1600 metres.
Outlook: Lighter snow should continue through the weekend. Signs of more cold fronts next week. ...
