There is plenty of snow still to come today, helped by the final, cold surge. Falling down to 500 metres for a time.
A strong cold front has moved through delivering snow and dropping alpine temperatures well below freezing. Its followed by a trough that brings the coldest air and increases the instability, increasing the snow. We are in a W/NW airflow ahead of it, then a proper SW when it arrives.
It rapidly dries up tonight, then Saturday has just the chance of snow showers, but its cold with sunny breaks and lighter winds.
We stay dry on Sunday. A sunny morning before cloud builds as another tropical jet crosses the country. It doesn't connect with a weak cold front, so we have only light falls on Monday, but its cold enough for snow through all alpine elevations.
There is more activity late next week: another strong cold front, driven by a deep low (but its well to the south), enough of a break in the highs to get a weak injection of tropical moisture, and cold enough for snow during the pre-frontal part. This all equates to 15 to 30 cm of snow.
