Continuing cold today, but just light snow if anything at all. The next proper snow system arrives on Thursday.
We have a cold front, deepening low, an upper level cold pool and an area of tropical moisture - but a high is in the way, so the alps have the cold (its been as low as -7C) but not much of the precipitation.
The high strengthens for Tuesday and Wednesday and moves eastwards, letting it thaw out, but not too much.
The next cold front arrives on Thursday. It is fed with moisture, and has good instability - but the high gets in the way so its not as great as it could be. We'll see 15 to 25 cm ready for the weekend.
It does pave the way for the next strong system, due on Sunday. This now looks to make a direct hit over southeast Australia, and has amazing cold air - but a high blocks access to tropical moisture, so it may not produce as much snow as it could.
So, high pressure is taking over for a little while, making things not as good as they could be - but the systems are there, so we will still see regular, moderate snowfalls.
