A cold front is moving across the Tasman Sea, leaving us in an unstable southwesterly airflow. Snow showers will continue through the day, mainly over southern resorts. The snow level rises to 1600 metres during the day.

We will take a break as high pressure moves overhead. Friday, Saturday and Sunday bring light winds and sunny breaks, but there is the potential for a lot of cloud to linger - and this may produce light snow/drizzle at times. The wind picks up again later on Sunday.

Then we enter another period with front after front moving through. Monday to Thursday looks snowy with 25 to 50 cm likely.

REST OF TODAY:

Snow showers, mainly over southern resorts. Breezy W/SW winds, easing later.
